PUERTO PRINCESA: TOP TOURS AND ATTRACTIONS

In Puerto Princesa, most hotels often partner with local travel agencies to provide in-house tour packages for their guests. While this is quite convenient, as every aspect of the tour will be taken care of, DIY-ing your way to a full Puerto Princesa experience is quite possible.

The following are some of the most popular Puerto Princesa tours and attractions:

Underground River Tour

Group Tour Rates: P1200-P1600 per person

➡️ CHECK UPDATED KLOOK RATES

The Underground River is by far Puerto Princesa’s foremost attraction and a natural wonder unlike any other. It is located at the Saint Paul Mountain Range, at Puerto Princesa’s western coast.

From the city center, an initial two-hour drive is needed to get you to Sabang Beach, where boats are on standby to take you to the park. For the Underground River Tour, we suggest that you avail of packaged tours, as the tour will require paperwork that you’d probably prefer your tour operator to handle. Arranged tours cost between PHP 1200 to PHP 1600.

There’s a recent development on how the Underground River Tour is conducted: if you have a flight on the day of the tour, or if you came via a cruise ship, you will be given priority over those with looser schedules. Also, tours will now come with a pre-recorded audio guide. An audio device will be given to you prior to entering the cave.

For the romantics out there, Iwahig Firefly Watching is a night activity you can do within the city. Fireflies frequent the mangroves along the Puerto Princesa coast, and you’ll need a small boat to get to the best spots. Firefly watching is best experienced in total blackness, so make sure you turn off all artificial lighting from your devices.

A packaged tour costs PHP 1500 per pax, but is much cheaper if you DIY the trip: only PHP 600 to pay for the boatman.

Nagtabon Beach

Nagtabon Beach is a public beach an hour or so from the city center. It’s recently gaining attention as a surfer’s beach and as an alternative to other Puerto Princesa attractions. There’s no entrance fee, but there’s a couple of small resorts offering rooms starting at PHP 700. You can also rent a cottage for PHP 300.

Getting there may require you to rent a private vehicle, but should you decide to commute instead, total fare will cost you around PHP 300.
